Obit Oalthe KS Daily News - Charles V. "Charlie" Schasteen - Charles V. "Charlie" Schasteen, 79, Gardner, died Mar. 3, 2004 at Aberdeen Village, Olathe. - He was born on Sept. 24, 1924 in Mound City, Kan. - Charlie graduated from Mound City High School, Mound City, Kan., and also Barber College in Tulsa, Okla. - He sold monuments for Bruce Memorials in Fort Scott, Kan., and moved to Gardner in 1957. - He owned and operated Charlie's Barber Shop in Gardner for 43 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Gardner Lions Club. He was instrumental in organizing Little League baseball in Gardner and coached many teams. He loved sports. He was also a volunteer firefighter. Charlie was a good man, who loved his family and friends. He was known for his honor and integrity. He will be missed by his community. - Preceding him were his parents, George Washington Schasteen and Maggie Ball Schasteen; wife Mary Sue Roberts Schasteen; brothers Dale, Bill and Llyod Schasteen and sisters Maxine McCarty and Ella Bishop. - Survivors include daughter Kathie Lee Mellody, Olathe; sons Charles S. "Chuck" Schasteen, St Louis, Mo., and Roy R. "Rob" Schasteen, Germantown, Tenn., and granddaughters Bridget and Brooke Schasteen. - Services were held on Mar 6, 2004 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Ft. Scott, Kan. - Memorial contributions are suggested to Aberdeen Village, Olathe, or the Gardner Historical Museum in care of Bruce Funeral Home, PO Box 192, Gardner, KS 66030.
