| Note | The Eugene Register-Guard Lane County, Oregon Thursday, April 28, 2011 Family Tribute James William Ballin (1943-2011) Jim passed away peacefully at his home at Wauna Lake in Stevenson, Washington. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Herb and Ruth Ballin. To Jim's longtime friends, he was always fun loving and full of life. He never had an opinion that he didn't share, his irreverence was notorious. He graduated from Grant High School in 1961. At Grant he excelled in baseball and his love of the game would continue throughout the rest of his life. He then went on to Oregon State, had way too much fun, and was soon drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War. In 1967 he met his future wife Anne Windsor. They were soon married and at that time Jim began a lifelong career in the international wood products industry. He served on the board of the International Wood Products Association and was President of the IWPA from 2003 to 2005. Jim is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Jonathan (Julie), Lesley Demers (David), Emily Weck (Todd); grandchildren that he adored, Megan and Trevor Ballin, Jack and Joseph Demers. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Ballin and sister, Julie Drinkward. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1624 NE Hancock, Portland, OR. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jim's memory to the OHSU Foundation designated for prostate cancer research, 1121 SW Salmon St., Suite 100, Portland, OR 97205 |
