Patrick was born on January 16, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Leo and Anna (Lienheart) Hankerd. He graduated from Holy Redeemer in Flint and furthered his education at Baker College.

Patrick was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, St. Vincent De Paul in Port Charlotte, Florida, the Hibernian, and worked on Toys for Tots for several years. He cherished many passions, particularly fishing in the Gulf, which held a special place in his heart. An avid football fan, he eagerly anticipated football season, supporting Notre Dame, the Green Bay Packers, and of course, the Detroit Lions. Above all, Patrick treasured the time spent with his family, especially his beloved wife, with whom he created countless memories through travel and shared moments in front of the television during football games.

Patrick married Mary Fitzpatrick at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Swartz Creek, Michigan, on November 4, 1961. Together, they spent 64 wonderful years raising their six sons.

He dedicated many years to General Motors before retiring, where he also worked as a photographer, wrote newsletters, and contributed to the United Way. Pat and Mary traveled as vendors at Irish festivals all over the country and operated a store in Downtown Owosso called Holiday.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hankerd; children Tim (Gina) Hankerd of Corona, California, Jim (Kim) Hankerd of Gladwin, Michigan, Tom (Kris) Hankerd of Davison, John (Sue) Hankerd of Owosso, Michigan, and Jeff (Marie) Hankerd of Gladwin, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Mary) Hankerd of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Mary Helen Guzak of Flushing, Michigan; sister-in-law, Carol Petersen; many nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son, Ted Hankerd; grandson, Cooper Pasco; parents, Leo and Anna Hankerd; sister, Elizabeth Tomei; brothers-in-law, Lester Tomei, David "Blue Jay" Guzak, and Fred Petersen; daughter-in-law, Kindell Hankerd; and other dear family members.
