Note

(Denissen v1 p209): Louis settled at the Clinton River circa 1800 and had a general store of such articles as was demanded in that locality. In July Governor Hull divided the territory of Michigan into districts for Courts of Justice and Louis was 1805 appointed Justice of the Peace for the huron District together with George Cottrell, Jean Marie Beaubien and Christian Clemens. In Sep 1805 Governor Hull as Commander in chief ordered two regiments of infantry to be formed in the territory of Michigan and Louis was appointed Captain of the 1st regiment. In Oct 1805 the militia of the St Clair River were detached from the 1st regiment and formed a battalion of four companies. Captain Louis Campau was appointed Major of this battalion.
