Note

Notes for: John Shasteen b 1774/1794 - est 1790

ASSUMED James <famtree4.doc> b 1815 is son of John Shasteen b 1774-1794 m Hannah Whitten based on Rittenger statement above - Set up this way in my PAF, not moved here pending verification - Based the census records William would not have been the father due to his age of James

Marriage Information: m1 IGI records show John Shasteen m Anna Whitten on 8 Apr 1813 in Gallia Co., OH prob typo and s/b Hannah Familysearch.org same info John Shasteen m Anna Whitten on 8 Apr 1813 in Gallia Co., OH Batch M513221 Source 0317652 V 1-2 Marriage records, 1803-1955 and index, 1803-1950, Gallia County, Ohio Ohio. Probate Court (Gallia County) m2?1821 - 1 Feb 1821 a marriage is shown in Gallia Co., OH for for John Chastine to Susan Campbell by N. Thevenin. m2?Ancestry has recorded as John Clastin to Susan Campbell 21 Jan 1821 - Familysearch.org 21 Jan 1821 batch 7223612 Sheet 11 Call 0822009 AND 01 Feb 1821 -(Prob Lic and Marriage?) Batch M513221 Source 0317652 V 1-2 Marriage records, 1803-1955 and index, 1803-1950, Gallia County, Ohio Ohio. Probate Court (Gallia County) 1820 Gallia Co OH - NO Clastin, Chastin, Chasteen, etc other than John Chasteen in Ross Co - There are 5 Campbell families in Green Twp Gallia, James, John, Runy, Sal, Samuel. TCT article has it as John Chastine - Not hardly any Claston’s around so would not be surprised if this is Chastine as per TCT. Possibly it is a second marriage for John, as it is unlikely a son of his. It would require death or divorce from Hannah in the brief period between the 1820 Ross Co. census and the wedding date. - ref TCT July 1979

Census Information: 1810 Census not found - assumed with father James in Amherst

1813 - This is probably the John Shasteen from Gallia County that was listed as a War of 1812 Veteran in the Roster of Ohio Soldiers in War of 1812 (CLH 977.1 O37) page 153 who served as a private under the Roll of Captain John Roadannour's Mounted Company (from Gallia County) which served from August 1, to September 4, 1813. 1820 census Gallia Co - Looking for William and Edmund, scanned all censut for Addison, Cheshire, Gallipolis, Green townships - LEFT to do others 1820 census of Union Township, Ross County, OH, but not 1830. Where would he and/or family have gone, checked Gallia County entire census but not found 1820 census of Union Township - Above Robert 2 male 0-10 - - - 1 male 26-45 - 1female 0-10 - 1 female 16-26 - - - ? 1830 census Washington, IN John Shasteen male 1 20-30, female 1 < 5, 1 20-30 probably too young based on Hannah marriage date as well as John birthdate

Other information: Rittenger book page 107 John Shasteen, married on May 3, 1815 in Gallia County, Ohio, to Hannah Whitten (Their son James, Jr (born March 2, 1815, died December 29, 1887 at Napoleon, Henry County, Ohio) married Mary A.
