Note

Notes for: Rosanna Shasteen b 24 Mar 1799

I have found almost no reference to Red Hill in Beaver Co., Pa other than a current day road in Darlington PA Don’t believe could be Robert’s daughter as too old as Robert married 1804. Could be sister if Robert’s mother Phoebe m 1782 at 18 would be b 1764 and 34 at Mary birth

Census Information:

Other information: Arthur A. Shasteen wrote "Sometine after the year 1799, Rosanna had migrated from Virginia to Ohio. She stopped in Chillicothe for awhile and then proceeded on to Defiance, Ohio, where she lived for quite a few years. Of course, the town of Defiance didn't exist at that time. Anyway, ca 1827, there was an Indian raid and she was abducted, attacked & raped, resulting in the birth of my great grandfather (Andrew Jackson Shasteen). I have not been able to find any other information on this lady, except the date of her death. I don't know if she was born a Shasteen or married one. This information was passed on to me by relatives and I have no idea of how much of this is authentic."

There is a very good likelihood, based upon date of birth, that Rosanna was Robert's third sister. Possible relation to James and/or Jackson Shasteen living in 1850 in household of James Shasteen, lawyer, in Henry County, Ohio per census and probably living in the James Shasteen household in 1840.- Speculate that the James Shasteen household was possibly the remaining household of Jacob Shasteen or Alonzo Shasteen.

Franklin Shasteen notes, letter from Lloyd L. Wilson, 4616 Stagecoach Road, Albany, GA 31705

Cameron Allen speculated that James mother was Mary Shasteen Defiance Co 1850 census, 53, b VA (circa 1797), living with Rose Shasteen, 51, born VA (probably a sister or sister in law) and Andrew Shasteen, 21 born OH, probably a brother of James There is a slim possibility that Rose could be the wife of the elusive Alonzo or Jacob
